This has not been a good year for Daylilies. The heat expedited their bloom season, foliage turned yellow and brown prematurely, and the flowers lacked their usual vibrant colors. My Chicago Knock-Out has been the last to hang on and these two are its final blooms of 2010.

You can still appreciate their beauty even though the heat had its day. Isn’t the flower usually much darker Lya or not in your part of the world?

The color you see may be affected by your browser. Having said that, all my Daylilies this year have had a bit of a washed-out look about them. Chicago Knock-Out’s color in my part of the world is a deep, true red, but not a dark red. Images I have seen of this variety in the U.K. lead me to believe yours is indeed darker. Over here the burning sun is bleaching some Hemerocallis blossoms as well, depending on the cultivar and place. A lot of buds suffered and withered. :-{
Not all blossoms got lighter or bleached; especially ‘Rue Madelaine’ seems to fade. Dressed in her powdery burgundy pigments she is a chameleon anyway. Her changeable color can hardly be fixed in a photo. I am trying to catch her since 3 days.
(“HER”? To me a Hemerocallis is a capricious “she”.)
