Metal Embossing Workshop by Magdalena S. Muldoon, softback published by Sterling in the USA. Available in the UK, price 8.99, ISBN 978-1-4027-5385-5 from www.thegmcgroup.com

Metal embossing is something I have tried and enjoyed many years ago. It is an easy at-home craft that requires little equipment. Magdalena has stretched the boundaries to include some great projects in this book and to show the full versatility of her craft.

Metal embossing, as you will learn in this book, has many applications. A traditional craft, that is open to interpretation, it is quickly and easily learned. In this book, Magdalena shows you how to create vines, monograms, flowers, Celtic knots. She shows how to create lustre, texture and depth as she explores the techniques that can be used.

In this book Magdalena discusses the materials and tools needed to get you started. She introduces each technique such as embossing, cutting curved shapes, adding depth, cutting into metal, gluing, repairing, stamping, stencilling, molding and finishing with step-by-step instructions and clearly illustrated examples.

The thirty-two projects are all out of the ordinary and I would challenge any metal embosser not to find something of interest here. Magdalena has truly made these projects a work of art. The chest of drawers and the lacework tray are two favourites. Congratulations to the publisher and Magdalena for not skimping and including so many lovely projects to make. Each project lists the tools needed and gives the patterns to complete the work. Some of the patterns need to be enlarged. Some colour work is included too. The projects however do not have step-by-step instructions, so you need to refer back to the techniques section to work out how to make the projects are just use them to develop your own ideas.
