Stitching to Dye in Quilt Art – Colour, Texture and Distortion by C June Barnes, hardback published by Batsford. ISBN 978-0-7134-9070-1, price 18.99 from www.anovabooks.com
This book has one of those gloriously tempting covers and the goodies continue inside with a showcase of innovative work. This book is all about a technique discovered by accident that led to a new way of quilting. The author uses pale fabrics to make her quilts, then dyes them. The book assumes a basic level of skill in quilting techniques and concentrates instead on the process discovered as a happy accident.
This book offers excellent ideas for those willing to explore. It has a very useful section on surface stitching, applique and cutting back, shrinking fabrics, distortion and dyeing. The fabulous colour photographs and examples of work in this lavish 128-page book should make you want to give it a try.
