More William Morris Applique by Michele Hill, softback published by Country Bumpkin in Australia. ISBN 978-0-980575385, price 29.99 available in the UK from www.searchpress.com

Following on from the success of her first book on this subject, Michele provides more patterns and applique quilt designs to entice the lover of William Morris. This book has everything you need to know to make fabulous quilts. The construction, templates, excellent instructions are all here. The applique template sheets are very good quality. Michele provides 10 new projects with more than 55 individual designs inspired by Morris. The Strawberry Thief inspired diary covers are a must, this project has a closer link to the original than the other projects – which are Michele’s imaginative interpretation of Morris. If you loved the first book, you are going to adore this one.

This book includes a brief history of goldwork, information on materials and threads and an A-Z of all the stitches and everything you need to know. Being spiral-bound it lies flat whilst you work, which is always advantage. It shows all the techniques in detailed photos and the instructions are clear.

I love A-Z books, and this is part of a popular series. An A-Z suggests a comprehensive volume and at first glance, this book might appear too small to be that. However, it is jammed full of instructions, history and all you need to know. A few more how-to photos of the stages of working would have been welcome. The stitch directory has these how-to photos and is very clear. The full size patterns are excellent. All in all, this is a very useful guide.
