Glass Bead Workshop by Jeri L Warhaftig, hardback published by Lark/Sterling in the USA. Available in the UK, ISBN 978-1-60059-123-5, price £14.99 from www.thegmcgroup.com

If you cannot attend a workshop, this book is the next best thing. Jeri takes you through ten sessions on how to form different glass beads. What I like about this is that she approaches the topic as a trained teacher – setting out what you should learn form each session.

Different tools, materials and skills are used throughout the sessions to give the reader an all-round idea of how to produce different beads with different working methods. Jeri gives professional tips for each session. Her style is easy to understand, the explanations and instructions are clear and the photographs are good. At the end of each session there are follow-up and further exploration ideas and also a gallery.

This book is good value for money. It is aimed at those with a grounding in the basics who want to take their skills to the next level.
