Derek Jarman’s Garden, hardback published by Thames & Hudson. ISBN 0-500-01656-9, price 16.95 available from www.thamesandhudson.co.uk

Part of a celebration of 20 years of the famed publisher, Derek Jarman’s Garden is just as extraordinary as the man himself. I doubt that this garden could have been created by any other person. At one with its surroundings, Jarman’s garden surrounding Prospect Cottage, stands as testimony to the creative art of the artist and film-maker. This is Jarman’s own record of the creation of the garden, his feelings and actions from 1986 to the year of his death in 1994.

Howard Sooley’s photographs are poignant – just what this garden and book deserved. The garden is preserved in prosperity in print. Follow the transformation of a bleak landscape, in the shadow of Dungeness. It is a garden unlike any other, created by a man unlike any other who tells his own story in this book.
