Day 13 quilting is very appropriate for the Nightmare on Downing Street, and that is all I will say here about the mess the UK is in and the corruption and lies that have brought us here. Very personally adversely affected for more than one reason. If you can visit the website today and actually buy anything, no matter how small, it will help, thank you. I am one of the 50s women who has lost 6 years of her state pension, thanks to the Tories, with no notification that I was not retiring at 60.
What Am I Working On?
Day 13 quilting and it was fun in the quilt room designing a new quilt. I had it all arranged on the quilt design wall. Then folded my fabric to find the centre, placed and appliqued my first block, then wham. I realised I had positioned it in the wrong place.
Undo or Re-design?
That was a quick re-design for me. I hate unpicking. It is one of the things I hate most about quilting, so I always try to get things right first time because unpicking is a real turn off. In all I stitched 5 blocks in place, it probably only needs 7, but the bobbin ran out and it was time for a rest. The bonus is I now have an unused design planned 🙂
Day 13 Discount
Day 13 quilting discount is on my textile work. I have created a large number of textile pieces from embroidered portraits to textile jewellery. All work is original, designed and handmade by me. Take 20 per cent off any item on the textiles pages. Just drop me a quick email and I’ll send an invoice marked with the 20% off the retail price. Thank you for all your support, much appreciated.
Day 9 quilting is all about work in progress (wip) and I have a few projects on the go. How many of the blogs are you following on Muppin? There are quite a few of us on Instagram, follow me on karenplatt_textiles
Work in Progress
I like to start a quilt and finish it before moving on to the next project. But hey, life happens. You run out of thread, fabric, wadding and have to wait. That’s always a good time to start another quilt. Or you have a fab idea that just won’t wait – do we need any excuses?
If you are still working on it, it is a WIP and not UFO. Seriously this quilt has been around forever. I would have it finished by now, but I used the fabric for something else. Yes, that. My first attempt at a modern wholecloth. A learning experience. It is the only one.
Cut but not pieced
I have only one of these too. The fabric was so gorgeous that for years I did not cut into it. Now it sits there, cut but not made into anything yet. I’m getting there.
Actually in progress
As I write this Day 9 quilting blog under my sewing machine is my current project. A modern quilt that I have half quilted (yesterday) and hope to finish today and bind tomorrow. On my work table I have the next two projects cut. So that’s my quilting set up to Xmas day.
Day 9 discount
Take 20 per cent discount off digital fabrics online. Pop back tomorrow for more quilting, an exciting new ecourse and a new discount. I’ll be doing the full 31 days, so stick around.
Day 5 quilting of the December challenge. I am in for the long haul, others might not have the stamina. Initiated by Muppin, we (those of us taking part) blog about quilting for the whole month. Stick around for tips, techniques and discounts.
Theme of the day for Day 5 quilting is the first project I made. I am going with my first machine made quilt. Sometimes I might deviate from the suggested theme, but today seems like a good topic for any quilter. My quilting started slowly, very slowly. I found it hard, no that is too gentle, impossible to follow instructions in books. I had dreams, big dreams of making quilts, but I was stuck on square one. There are only two things to do in that position a) give up or b) find a way through. I am no quitter, so the latter was the way to go.
Designing My Own Quilt
I got up one day and thought ‘There is no way that fabric can stay in the drawer any longer’. I took it out and began to quilt. A simple strip roll with two added fabrics as ominous as an old bed sheet and broderie anglaise turned into not only my first bed sized quilt but one of my favourites. It’s on my bed for some time to come.
