Day 3 Quilting of 31 Day Blog Challenge

Day 3 Quilting already (actually feels like day 30 :)) this is quite intense blogging. Writers love writing. Quilters love to quilt, so today I am going to start with a question

What Do You Love Most About Quilting?

I have already answered that in Day 1 and Day 2, for me it is the design. I know for many quilters it is actually sewing, which I sometimes like and sometimes hate depending on how smoothly it is going. I like straight stitches, honestly, and I love hand stitch. I must do more free-motion quilting because that is where the fun really starts. It took me a while to try it and I need lots of practice.

Quilting Machines

Day 3 Quilting let’s talk about quilting machines. They are just sewing machines that make life a little easier when quilting. I started on a very basic Singer Confidence, which I loved. It lasted 7 years until the computer bit went haywire. I donated it to a charity that mends and sends machines to Africa. I upgraded to something a little better. My main objective was a wider throat to take a full-size quilt. But, you’ll never guess, so far after 18 months, I have yet to make another full-size quilt. I am very much a wall hanging and lap quilt lady. The other thing is the ability to free-motion, which is a feature of many machines now.

Day 3 Discount

Today’s discount is a super 10 per cent off all ecourses under 100 pounds. These quilting ecourses will hone your skills so do not miss out, the discounts are running for one day only and the reduced price is marked on the website. They are Design and Create a Quilted Wallhanging, Digital Quilt Block Monthly, Fabric Design in Photoshop, Inspiration Monthly, Kaleidoscopes in Photoshop, Transform Your Photos Into Art Quilts, Cathedral Window Hand Quilting, One Block Wonder Quilts and New Photo Techniques For Quilters

Achievement is the Buzz Word for January 2019

Achievement is indeed the buzz word for January 2019. Each week of this New Year has brought fantastic news.

Achievement is my kind of success and involves markers along the way to the ultimate goal. I have always given 100% plus to whatever I do and it is great to see some recognition.

Talks at Quilting Shows
My first talks on Colour For Quilters are at the British Quilt & Stitch Village 2019 in April. I am speaking on each day at that event at Uttoxeter racecourse – 12-14th April.

I have just heard that on 4th August 2019, I shall be giving two talks at the ultimate quilt show – FOQ (Festival of Quilts) at the NEC, Birmingham, UK. The first is on Quilt Design, the second on the same day is on Colour. This is preliminary notice, actual dates and times are to be confirmed.

I am thrilled. Feeling very lucky. Book your tickets now and I’ll see you on the day. How do I top that achievement?

Quilting
I have made great progress with my latest Winter Inspirations quilt. The snowflakes are being added now. Perhaps just one more round of motifs and it will be finished. It is a quilt as you go, so once I have the top done, there will not be much more quilting when I add the backing.

I was gathering scraps today and might fit in a scrap quilt next. I am mindful now of getting my FOQ design finished. It will be great to have a quilt hanging when I am speaking there.

My sewing machine needs to go off for its annual service, but I really need it now. If it were not for so many projects, I might just think of starting my millefiori quilt, which will be by hand.

Knitting
Finally I am knitting a textured sleeveless top. Enjoying making up my own stitch pattern too.

Art
Opening on Saturday 26th at the Montgomery Theatre cafe, Sheffield I have an exhibition of art and framed quilts on show until Friday 20th February 2019.

On the 7th day of January 2019

January new ecourse

I keep reminding myself that we are still in the first week of January 2019 and this is not a race. January is not known for go-getters! I’m out of the starting blocks and winning the race.

Notwithstanding, I have so far designed over 20 new fabrics. 17 of them are snowflake designs. Not all quite uploaded yet but I am getting there. As if that is not enough for one week’s work, I have also designed the Winter Inspirations quilt and what I have done so far is looking fantastic. This quilt, following on from the Summer Inspirations and Autumn Inspirations quilts, consists of several techniques. It is part of my Quilt As You Learn patterns. There is little more inspiring or confidence building than learning as you quilt. The patterns are a mix of tutorial and step by step photographic and written instructions. I am aiming to have this new quilt finished by the end of the month.

The fabrics have been designed for this quilt, although I am not using every design. They are available to buy with or without the pattern. Earlier in the week I designed some new rust inspired fabrics. I am also designing other new fabrics for the quilt above.

Elsewhere I went out to an exhibition in Lincoln. The Land, Sea and Air exhibition, I found a little disappointing.

My own exhibition of mainly paintings with some small textile pieces that are framed is at The Montgomery 25th January – 21st February 2019. It is in the cafe, which is open to the public at all times the Montgomery is open, whether the actual cafe is serving drinks or not. All works on show are available for sale.

The Colour ecourse has been launched and is a fantastic course for anyone who wants to learn about colour for quilters and textile artists. Learn how colours go together, what is right and wrong and most importantly something that no course tackles to my knowledge, how to go beyond the colour wheel.

More next week, stay creative.

New Year New Quilt and Fabric Products Launched

I said I had a lot to finish and add to the website before the New Year and I am almost there. Just the new ecourses to add – Colour Confidence For Quilters and Hand Embroidery For Textile Artists. Looking forward to launch those before New Year’s Eve.

Yesterday I launched the new Bells of St. Clements quilt for sale. Alongside it the quilt pattern and tutorial was also launched. It is a bright and cheery design. This is the latest pattern in my Skill Builders and is also the Summer Inspirations quilt. You can see the quilt here and the pattern is here

I am also working on venues to offer courses in person again in 2019 anywhere in the country or overseas if possible. Some courses are listed on the website. Remember you can travel with me to India for blocking printing workshops in Jan 2020. Sign up here. You can also sign up directly on the Colouricious website. They have been running tours successfully for more than 10 years.

Ready to launch are 17 new fabrics inspired by stained glass and tiles. These fabrics are unique and designed by me. I am listing them now under digital fabrics on the website. They are most suitable for the Cathedral Windows projects and tutorial.

As you can see I am concentrating on offering more fabric for quilters and more ecourses, patterns and tutorials for quilters and textile artists. It’s been a tough year but I am convinced that with my new, unique products and supplies, I will gain a foothold in the quilting market.

Just yesterday I block printed my first fabric for my new Winter Inspirations quilt that will be launched very soon. This will sell as printed panels and as metreage as well as a quilt kit. It is also hand dyed first, then block printed by hand.

I am looking forward to meeting many of you online, or in person throughout the New Year. Wishing everyone all the best.

New December Product Launches Textiles and Art

New December 2018 sees the launch of new textile and art products. This month has got off with a big bang. It isn’t fireworks. It’s all about what is new in my store.

The latest product was added on 1 December 2018. The art prompts inspiration ecourse This is an excellent way to get creating every day for 12 months for just 60 gbp. You’ll find a dedicated, closed fb group page plus booklets for every month. Lots of ideas to keep you creating throughout the year.

New knitting patterns have just been added to my Ravelry knitting pattern store. Keep checking back because a backlog means I am adding new patterns now. You will not want to miss the newest shawl pattern I have designed.

Those are the latest launches, so what does the rest of December have in store? The latest quilt will be finished and published as a quilting tutorial and pattern. The quilt itself will also be on sale. The next quilt is designed. I am hoping to get that launched this month too – that’s the Winter quilt design.

I shall very shortly be uploading the Winter Inspirations ebook. If you are looking for a Xmas gift for someone creative, this is perfect. Just 7 gbp for enough inspiration to keep you going for years. The Inspiration Churches ebook will be launched too and would also make the perfect gift.

Last of all, I think, I have another two ecourses to launch shortly – Colour for the Quilter (beyond the colour wheel) and Creative Hand Stitching. Check for details on the website.

Don’t forget that there are already many products already on the website – supplies, ebooks and ecourses that make the perfect Xmas gift for all your friends. You can also visit my Etsy store or artfinder store for gifts. I sure could do with the support.

New Products Six Month Retrospective of Art, Craft and Textiles

New products – a look back at the last six months. I have worked so hard on my core skills of writing, teaching and publishing. Here are the new products:

The last six months have seen me create a brand new website of new products

In the last six months, I have launched six new ebooks providing inspiration for artists in every field. These include numerous photos you can use to create your own work, no matter what kind of artist you are. The ebooks also include examples of my work (these cannot be used but can inspire). The six titles are
1. Skies
2. Rust
3. Bark
4. Lichen
5. Coast
6. Stone and Strata
They can all be viewed here
The next title in preparation is Desert.

My digital work receives a lot of interest. The question I am most asked is ‘How did you do that?’. To answer that I created an Advanced Photoshop ecourse. It is Advanced in that it takes a few processes but is still simple to use and produce the effects I do. You can purchase it here.

As my main focus is now quilting, there are many ecourses and tutorials I have created for quilters. I am still finishing the writing of two ecourses for hand quilting, which will be launched shortly together with a beginner’s quilting course. I have been busy hand dyeing and rust dyeing fabric too. I intend to expand the range further. These are found under the supplies section of the website.
A future focus will be an ecourse in colour and themed work.

My main focus for the next two months is getting ready to take part in the Festival of Quilts for the first time and to showcase my ecourses and quilt kits. You will find me on Stand C5, come and say hello.
